Mount Lockyer Primary School upgrades receive $1.4m boost as works begin

An additional $1.4 million is set to overhaul an original six-classroom block at Mount Lockyer Primary School as part of the State Government’s multi-million-dollar rebuild.

Premier Mark McGowan made the pledge on Monday as he stopped by the school to officially turn the sod, marking the start of work, on the now $16.6 million project to rebuild the 65-year-old school.

“This major rebuild will create a fantastic new facility for students and teachers, while creating jobs for locals,” Mr McGowan said.

“The school is a popular choice for local families and I’m sure the new buildings will become a hub for the community.”

The State Government allocated $15.2 million to the project last year to accommodate rising student enrolments.

A new administration building, library, staff room, assembly area and additional parking will be included in the rebuild.

There will be four modern learning blocks, each containing four classrooms, activity rooms, staff study areas and toilets.

The new additions will be located on the school’s current oval with a new oval developed as part of the project. Existing classrooms, science and music blocks will be incorporated.

Designs for the redeveloped school have been centred around a “village square” concept to emphasise connection to community.

Students will continue learning in the original school buildings during construction, which is expected to be complete for the start of the 2022 school year.
