Police are calling for information from the community after burglars targeted Katanning Mosque on Tuesday morning.

On Twitter, Katanning police said burglars entered the mosque between 1.30am and 4am.

“Please contact us with any info or if you saw anything suspicious during these times,” they said.

Katanning Imam Alep Mydie said he was disappointed the mosque had been broken into again — the fourth time in a year.

“They ransack the mosque looking for money, but we never keep cash here so I don’t know why they even bother,” he said. “They stole our leaf blowers, but other than that, they just damaged the property.”

Mr Mydie said the burglars had caused $300 worth of damage.

He said he would install extra measures around the mosque in an attempt to prevent further break-ins.

“We already hire local security guards when we first got broken into,” he said. “We changed the locks and put some extra measures around the place.

“But maybe we can install CCTV camera and discourage all burglary completely.”

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Katanning police on 9821 1888.
