More than 50 riders set to line up at Albany race for valuable WA Downhill series points
The Albany Mountain Bike Club will hold round three of the WA State Downhill Series that is set to attract more than 50 riders at the Poikies track on Poikeclerup Road near Nanarup this weekend.
The State round was held at the Poikies track for the first time in 2019 and then held a second event at the same venue last October.
The AMBC is hoping for 50-80 riders, with already 35 already nominated to fight it out for WA State series points.
At least 20 visiting riders from Perth, Bunbury, Denmark and Margaret River are set to descend on Albany and compete against the 15 locals nominated.
Riders will use the event as a qualifier for the Albany Urban Downhill race, to show they are at the standard required to compete in the big race in September.
AMBC president Dora Adeline believes the WA event will be a big hit with competitors.
“The Albany MTB club is pleased to present the legendary Poikeclerup site this weekend for the 2021 WA State Downhill competition,” she said.
“This true-grit trail has had a facelift for an even bigger better experience this June long weekend.
“We have enjoyed watching young guns like Harper O’Donnell, Jackson and Declan Poett, Aston Sobik, Tyla Anderson, Joshua Ponsford and Robert Glynn from Denmark develop their skill and participate in State events like this one.”
Online registrations close at 7pm tomorrow with late registrations taken on Saturday and practice is from 11am.
On Sunday more practice will be held from 9-11am before the race runs from noon to 4pm.
