Modified sedans double for in-form Clint Noakes, claiming final round spoils and South Coast Classic in Albany

Clint Noakes was the dominant driver of the modified sedans field at Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway, winning both nights of racing on March 2 and 3. Spending little time in the driver’s seat in recent years failed to slow Clint Noakes down as he won the final round of the WA Modified Sedan Series and the lucrative South Coast Classic on successive nights. The South Coast Classic, that boasted $10,000 in prizemoney, was taken out by the retuning Clint Noakes after starting from position three on the grid of the 25-lap feature race. Clint Noakes took the race lead at the midway point after Peter Fraser led in the early stages and a terrific battle developed between Albany’s Laurie Dowsett and Matt Noakes for third place. Jarrod Rick who started on the front row alongside Peter Fraser retired after seven laps while the only major incident of the race came on lap two when Matt Noakes and Sam McAuley came together, the latter hitting the wall and forced to exit the race. Peter Fraser made one final challenge at Clint Noakes in the dying stages but Clint Noakes prevailed by 0.430secs to wrap up a brilliant weekend. Laurie Dowsett edged out Matt Noakes for third place while Luke Fraser rounded out the top five in the final. In the unique format, Peter Fraser, Dowsett, Rick and Shane Brittian were heat race winners on the Sunday night. Meanwhile the previous night Clint Noakes won the final round of the WA Modified Sedan Series, beating home Luke Fraser and Dowsett in the 20-lap decider. Clint Noakes won all three of his heat races and the shootout and led every lap of the main event in a strong display. Luke Fraser charged through the pack and was closing fast as the chequered flag neared but Clint Noakes claimed victory by 0.505secs. Dowsett was third home while Peter Fraser and Sam McAuley completed the top five. The only stoppage of the race came at the halfway point for a slowing Matt Noakes while Anthony King also retired to the infield. Matt Noakes, Dowsett and Luke Fraser also scored heat race wins on the Saturday night. The modified sedan double header was run in conjunction with the 2024 National Super Sedan Title at the Albany venue.
