Model T to Tesla: Great Southern Street Machine Association gears up for 2023 Show and Shine
The Great Southern Street Machine Association will host its 27th annual Show and Shine at the Albany Agricultural Society pavilions this weekend.
Event organiser Christine Sargent said this year’s Show and Shine would feature a wide range of motors and vehicles representing about 100 years of motoring.
“We have quite a variety of cars this year,” she said.
“We’ll have a brand-new Tesla, a GTSR HSV, one of the last builds, and a 1925 Chevrolet, that’ll be there as well as everything in between.”
The yearly event will start on Saturday with a Supercruise Poker Run around Albany and the fun will continue on Sunday with a range of activities, competitions and displays for car lovers of all ages.
“There will be a model T Ford replica that fits one in and a cut-out motor so people can see how a motor actually works,” Ms Sargent said.
“There’ll be free face painting for the kids, a colouring in competition, a maze they can come and roam around in and the rocker cover races that gets a lot of interest from the kids and we have quite a few that come in and do it.
“We’ll set it up so they can have a practice to start with before the knockout competition.”
While this year’s event is set to be a big one, Ms Sargent said that a recent unexpected surprise meant next year’s Show and Shine might be a true milestone for the association.
“We thought it was the event’s 27th year but recently on Facebook a photo has turned up of a Show and Shine from 1984,” she said.
“We’re not sure if the event has been held every year since then but if it has then next year will be our 40th.
“If anyone’s got any information on the Show Shine, if it did run every year, then get in touch with us over Facebook or give us a call on 0477 562 572 — the more information we can get the better.”
Entry to the event on Sunday is $10 per person with entry free for children under 12 accompanied by an adult.
The pavilions will be open from 10am.
