Manypeaks bowlers blast Bulldogs to secure title

Manypeaks’ bowlers turned on a devastating display to dismantle North County in the Albany Junior Cricket Association under-16 grand final last Sunday.

Defending just a meagre 101, only 25 overs were needed to skittle the Bulldogs for just 61 in reply at Turf North.

Both top orders struggled to stamp any authority on the match but the Peaks middle order provided crucial resistance to set up what eventually became a match-winning total.

After winning the toss and batting first, Peaks recovered from the precarious position of 4-39 thanks mainly to a vital 34-run partnership between Cameron Higgins (15) and Seb Stanton (32).

The partnership ended when Stanton was run out by Jared Fuller but Cooper Filipowski added an important 18 not-out from 23 balls to push Peaks to three figures.

Seamer James Plowman (2-6) and Flynn Cristinelli (3-1) did most of the damage with the ball for the Bulldogs.

The run chase began in disastrous fashion when Filipowski claimed the key wicket of Harry Crane, caught behind for 2 and then staggered to 4-30 off 13 overs.

First change seamer Jack Stephens was the star for Peaks, snaring 4-6 from his five overs to rip through the Bulldogs’ batting line-up.

Jacob Blight took two late wickets as the Bulldogs were bowled out for their lowest score of the season.
