Saskia AdystiAlbany Advertiser

Major Crash detectives are on their way to Albany to investigate a car rollover which killed a 52-year-old local man in Elleker last night.

The Albany man was travelling along Lower Denmark Road near Piggott Road about 6.35pm when his white Holden Commodore several times before coming to a stop in bushland.

Superintendent Ian Clarke said the man died at the scene “despite the best efforts” of members of the public.

“The police were alerted to the incident by a passerby and despite the best efforts of people who initially came across the crash — including an off-duty doctor — they were unable to save the driver,” Supt Clarke said.

Police closed a section of the road near the Elleker General Store last night.

Investigators are seeking information or dashcam footage from anyone who saw the Holden Commodore driving in Albany or Elleker before the crash.

“We don’t know exactly what’s happened at this stage but a report will be prepared for the coroner,” Supt Clarke said.
