Car crashes through McDonalds drive-through in Centennial Park in Albany and into carpark below

There was a shot of commotion and a little chaos at a popular WA McDonald’s when a car smashed through the drive-through and into the carpark below.

The incident unfolded at the Centennial Park fast-food restaurant in the heart of Albany when the male driver of a Mercedes Benz hatchback was left precariously balanced on a wall after crashing through the drive-through about 9.46am on Sunday.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services and four crews from Albany Fire and Rescue worked to stabilise the car to allow the man, who is in his 70s, to get out safely.

St John Ambulance reports that the man had no serious injuries but was taken to Albany Health Campus under normal road speed.

A tow truck secured the vehicle and had departed the McDonalds by 10.30am.

Patrons of the nearby Dome Cafe said they heard a loud crash as the driver collided with the fence.

“We didn’t see him go over the edge but we heard the crash and came out to see him tipped over into the carpark,” Anne said.

“I think he might have put his foot on the accelerator instead of the brakes which sent him hurtling through.”

A spokesperson for the Albany Highway McDonalds confirmed that the fence would be fixed on Monday, with cones and tape warning customers to be careful in the meantime.
