Lucky escape as pilot loses power, hits fence
A man escaped serious injury after his light plane crash-landed at the Albany Regional Airport on Sunday.
City of Albany airport manager Stuart Jamieson said the incident occurred about 8am when the pilot was approaching the airport.
“The aircraft lost power at 4000 feet, hitting a perimeter fence on approach to the runway before coming to a halt inside the airport grounds boundary track,” he said. “The pilot was OK and called emergency services — as soon as the plane was stationary — who attended along with airport staff.”
The pilot was taken to Albany Regional Hospital for a check-up but had no serious injuries.
The incident was reported to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
Mr Jamieson said City of Albany staff had started repairing the fence.
