Local trainers dominate Ladies Day card

Rejuvenated sprinter Mu Mu Land notched her second win for new trainer Sam Faithfull to cap a big day for local trainers, who won all eight races on the Ladies Day feature meeting at Percy Spencer Racecourse on Sunday.

After winning at her first start for Faithfull in Albany on Boxing Day, the seven-year-old mare ran fourth behind Dynabelle and was then a luckless eighth at Narrogin, beaten by less than three lengths at her last start.

Aided by a terrific ride from local hoop Natasha Faithfull, the $31 shot sat on speed and sprinted home strongly from third on the turn to hold off the fast-finishing Poldark’s Girl by a head in the Whale Watch Western Australia Handicap (1100m).

“She is flying,” Sam Faithfull said. “She is going for a spell now, she’s done really well and can have a freshen-up before coming back at the end of the season.

“It has taken a lot to get her right, she’s had a few little issues.”

Earlier, Albany trainer Roy Rogers won the opening two races on the card with acquired galloper Anna Amalia and three-year-old Dick Turpin filly Myarena.

Leading trainer Steve Wolfe took his season tally to 17 winners after Mr Pago had a beautiful trip in the Playing God At Mungrup Stud Handicap (1900m) for rider Shaun McGruddy to edge out Toru Waimarie by a head on the line.

Rising galloper Lord Kronos lumped 60kg in an eye-catching win over 1600m, flying home over the concluding stages to beat Mongolian Warlord by a neck.

McGruddy and the Wolfe connections lodged an unsuccessful protest for alleged interference on straightening against the winner.

To round out the day for the battlers, trainer Des Attwell finished with a winning double after success with Queen Tori in the last and Long Knife, which took the Fitzpatrick Plate, while Prix D’Excellence saluted for local lad Liam O’Loughlin.
