Local governments not considering date change

Albany Advertiser

The City of Albany and Shire of Denmark have both declared they have no plans to shift Australia Day celebrations from January 26.

In a brief statement to the Albany Advertiser the City of Albany said it “ has not considered changing the date of rour Australia Day celebrations”.

Shire of Denmark president Ceinwen Grearon said the issue was not an “area of focus for our Shire”.

“Over the last six months we have received a vast amount of feedback on a number of issues and areas of priority for our community,” she said.

“We are taking the community’s lead and ensuring that we devote our resources and focus our energy towards addressing the issues that our community have identified.

Only three comments, of varying viewpoints, were received regarding the Australia Day celebration, with no comments specifically asking to change the date.”

It comes after Triple J announced on Tuesday it would shift its Hottest 100 Countdown from January 26.
