Little Beach carpark in Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve will undergo renovations and upgrades to accommodate the growing number of visitors to the iconic Great Southern beach.

Data shows that more than 70,000 visits were received at Little Beach in the 2023-24 financial year.

The contract for the upgrades are expected to be awarded in early 2025, with works anticipated to be completed by mid-2025 to the highly popular Albany tourist spot.

A spokesperson from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions said the upgrades to the area were in response to the increasing amount of visitors to the pristine location.

“Little Beach is a very popular beach in Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve, located just 35km east of Albany, with the beach receiving 74,000 visits in the 2023-24 financial year,” they said.

Based off traffic data, in the past three years visits to the area have increased by almost 27,000.

“As visitor numbers continue to exceed the carpark capacity, vehicles are being parked on the vegetation off the road, causing damage to the environment, creating a traffic hazard for other cars, and putting visitors at risk as they walk down the road to get to the beach,” the DBCA spokesperson said.

The works will be managed by DBCA’s Albany district and will involve expanding and sealing the current gravel carpark, doubling the current capacity and catering for longer vehicles.

New pedestrian paths will connect existing facilities.
