LGSHA 2024: Spencer Park defeat North Albany in women's and men’s A-grade as season ramps up for finals

Spencer Park bounced back from last week’s shock loss to Mt Barker with a dominant victory over reigning premiers North Albany in the penultimate round of the Retravision women’s A-grade season on Saturday. As the end of Lower Great Southern Hockey Association’s regular season nears the pointy end, Redbacks have uncharacteristically stumbled losing their past two games in the lead-up to finals. Park notched a 3-0 victory over the minor premiers with Tallulah Gouldthorp netting a match-defining brace to steer them to victory. Ranni Flynn was sublime in the victory while Tessa Wood and Annie Judd were solid contributors and Lauren Spinks scored a vital goal. Michelle Ericsson, Stella Gordon and Jayne McTaggart all competed well for the Redbacks. Manypeaks defeated Mt Barker in a nine-goal thriller with WA State Country star Kathryn Slattery scoring a hat-trick to lift her side to a remarkable win in Albany on Saturday night. Slattery netted three sensational goals while her sister Meg Slattery and Georgia Stephenson also scored in the gripping 5-4 win. Katelin Woithe, Clare King and Zali Spencer all converted goals for Mt Barker while Renae Parsons and Laura Archer were key contributors for the visitors. In the Retravision men’s A-grade competition, Spencer Park handed North Albany a heavy defeat on Saturday highlighted by braces from Brodie Sarre and James Leiper. Sarre starred across all four quarters as Park romped to a 6-1 victory over Redbacks. Tim Rowatt and Charlie Hudson each chipped in with goals and Andre Gabriel played a key role for the winners. Travis Douglas scored a consolation goal for the Redbacks, who were served best by Steven Weich, Sorren Humphries and Simon Philpott. In the last match of the round, minor premiers Manypeaks continued their red-hot run of form into finals with a 3-0 victory over Mt Barker in Albany on Saturday night. Oliver Douglas scored two goals and Mitch Bradbury netted one as Peaks cruised to their eighth straight victory. Douglas, Campbell Mayne and Jordan Dwyer were all outstanding for Peaks while Maxwell Wright, Oliver Ritchie and Ryan Bedford were impressive for Mt Barker.
