Korthius’ four goals lead Phoenix in win

Phoenix have moved back into JUsecond place after defeating JUAlbany-Bayswater 7-3 in round 7 of the Great Southern Soccer Association men’s open competition at North Road soccer grounds last Saturday.

Jarrad Korthius finished with four goals for the victors while Megan Spaanderman, Douglas Bosch and Shannon Plug also scored for Phoenix.

Aazam Bulbulia, Callum Garland and Jordan Thomas all scored for Albany-Bayswater.

Meanwhile, Royals managed their first points of the season after registering a 2-2 draw against JURovers.

Rovers appeared to be in control with a 1-0 lead at half-time, JUhowever, second-half goals to Royals’ Leon Durrant and Nathan Griffiths ensured the points were shared. Bradley Bielecki and JULawrence Oboh were the goalJU scorers for Rovers.

On Sunday, Polonia and Cale-donians also fought out a 2-2 draw with the top-placed side surrendering a 1-0 advantage at the half after Lawson Smith and Thomas Hunt found the back of the net for JUPolonia in the second half.

Brennan Childs and Liam JUMcDonald both scored forJU Caledonians.

In the women’s league A competition, Polonia claimed a crucial 1-0 victory against Phoenix last JUFriday night. Laura Hunt scored the only goal of the match. The win puts Polonia in striking distance of the second-placed Phoenix.

Denmark retained top spot after Caledonians forfeited.

Polonia and Denmark fought out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the men’s masters competition last Tuesday.

Denmark had the ascendancy in the first half after going ahead 1-0 before goals to Declan Howarth and Craig Robson allowed Polonia to equalise.

Hugo Faulkner and Philip JUKinder scored for Denmark.

In the other matches, Rovers defeated The Vets 5-2, Caledonians beat Old Boys 6-2, while Cross JUKeys United demolished Albany-Bayswater 6-0.

Mt Barker kept their unbeatenJU record intact with a 24-0 thumping of Albany-Bayswater in the women’s league B competition.

Denmark White drew 1-1 with Royals, Port Albany won 2-0 against Polonia White, and Grammar White beat Polonia Red 5-2.
