Locals who went above and beyond to keep their pocket of Albany looking pristine this year were celebrated at a community awards ceremony earlier this month.

Keep Albany Beautiful held its annual showcase at the City of Albany on December 3, celebrating the community’s independent efforts to keep the City looking tidy.

Every month, Keep Albany Beautiful volunteers visit gardens across the City and pick a monthly winner.

The overall winners for the year are honoured at the ceremony.

City of Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington helped announce the winners, who were presented with a commemorative plaque to display in their gardens.

“Keep Albany Beautiful is in its 49th year and is now growing from strength to strength. There were 125 guests seated for this event,” Keep Albany Beautiful president Lynley Harrison said.

“The showcase is to award the keen gardeners in Albany with the recognition of the way they present their front gardens and streets which enriches all our lives.”

Warrenup resident Kerry Smart was awarded best private garden, Mira Mar couple Tony and Debbie Docking won best water-wise garden, Big 4 Middleton Beach Caravan Park claimed best commercial garden, and Spencer Park Primary School won best school garden.
