Juniors vote in favour of ACA merger

A merger between junior and senior cricket into the one association is complete after a special resolution meeting on Monday night officially closed the door on the Albany Junior Cricket Association.

A resolution to dissolve the AJCA was read by outgoing president Jackie Boyce, and following some brief discussion, was passed by the members in the room to confirm the handover of all junior cricket to the Albany Cricket Association.

A merger or alignment of juniors and seniors had been tipped to occur after the AJCA failed in their bid to find new committee members, including a president, for the upcoming season.

Monday night’s meeting was merely a formality in the end as a majority vote dissolved the association immediately.

Two other points were included in the vote, a resolution for current AJCA members to become members of the ACA and a further resolution that all remaining AJCA assets, as set out in the distribution plan to be distributed to the ACA.

There were no votes against the motion and one member abstained from casting a vote.

Boyce said the move was a positive for the future of cricket as a whole in Albany.

“I think it’s really important to note the majority supported the change,” she said.

“The people doing the work are the ones supporting it.

“We’ve stuck our hand up and made a decision to benefit everyone and this will create better understanding across the cricket community.

“There are a lot of positives — we need to focus on those and this will be an energised and proactive going forward for cricket.”

A working party, made up of parents, will now help with the transition into the ACA. They will meet next week and review organisational structure and look at how the juniors can operate in the ACA.

ACA president Terry Eaton was in the room and confirmed that his association was ready to bring juniors under the senior banner.

The ACA is likely to have committee members directly linked with organising and running junior cricket on its executive.

The annual general meeting will be held on Monday, August 5.
