Joel Derek Coyne remanded in custody on two charges for allegedly smashing window and entering protected house

An Albany man faces two charges after allegedly breaking into the home of a protected person and breaking a window, requiring hand surgery. Joel Derek Coyne appeared via video link in the Northbridge Magistrates Court on Saturday on one charge of aggravated home burglary and commit, and one charge of breach of protective bail conditions. The 33-year-old was arrested on Friday after breaching protective bail conditions for a woman with whom he had previously been in a relationship. Police will allege that Mr Coyne arrived at the victim’s address at 9.40am on Thursday without invitation or consent from the protected person. He allegedly asked to be let into the house, shouting and demanding to be let in, before making his way to the back of the house where he attempted to enter through a rear sliding door while yelling. Mr Coyne is accused of smashing a back bedroom window with his hand and crawling through it, entering the house and following the protected person into the front bedroom. Police say Mr Coyne left via the front door after he was asked to leave. The injury to Mr Coyne’s hand required surgery at Albany Health Campus. Mr Coyne is due to appear in Albany Magistrates Court on Thursday, December 21.
