Jackson impresses for WA

Albany’s Bryce Jackson and his WA teammates have reached the semi-finals of the Under-19 National Cricket Championships in Tasmania, looking to defend their title.

Jackson is representing WA for the first time and the young fast bowler has taken two wickets and made 20 runs to help his side win through to yesterday’s semifinals of the tournament in Hobart.

WA faced ACT-NSW Country in Tuesday’s quarterfinal of the championships, with Jackson returning figures of 0-43 from his eight overs as ACT-NSW Country made 8-208 from their 50 overs.

However, WA proved too strong with the bat as they reached the victory target with five wickets in hand and more than five overs to spare, led by Western Warriors rookie Matthew Spoors with 75.

Jackson impressed in his side’s tie with the Cricket Australia XI, taking 1-44 from his 10 overs with the ball, while chipping in with six runs off three balls in the tense final stages of the run chase.

The 17-year-old snared 1-33 from seven overs against Victoria Country and bowled five overs for 15 runs against NSW Metro in the opening game of the championships. WA were up against NSW Metro in their semifinal at New Town Oval yesterday, with the winner progressing to face either South Australia or the CA XI in tomorrow’s final.
