Leading Great Southern thoroughbred nursery Mungrup Stud has welcomed WA’s first foal of the season — just in time for the horses’ birthday today.

The colt by A Lot, from the mare Majantic, was born in the early hours of Monday morning and is the first foal to come from A Lot.

A Lot holds the current North American 1400m record on grass and is by champion sire Tapit.

The foal is pictured here at just four hours old with Majantic and Mungrup team member Ella McDonald.

The stud has noted the foal is already showing similarities to his father with “nice size” and good bone structure.

Ann Croucher, from Mungrup Stud in Narrikup, said the foal came earlier than expected.

“Majantic is a full sister to multiple stakes-winner Global Flirt and this is her third foal,” she said. “Her first foal sold at Perth Magic Millions earlier this year to Stephen Miller for $36,000, a Playing God colt.

“A Lot served about 50 mares in his first season at stud last year.

“He arrived at Mungrup, having flown from California to New Zealand to Australia only a few days prior to the serving season starting. He took to his new job like a duck to water.”
