Audiences were whisked away on a magical aquatic adventure on Saturday during two debut performances of Fairy Queen, the latest production by local arts organisation Breaksea.

Local talent shone in an ocean-themed reimagining of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with the classic tale transported to a seaside town.

Sopranos Pia Harris as fairy queen Titania and Sara Macliver as Siren, wowed the audience with their vocals.

They were accompanied by live classical music by the University of WA’s Conservatorium of Music Chamber Orchestra, led by Shaun Lee-Chen.

Albany’s Jarrad Inman, Rachael Colmer and Imogen Taylor were some of the local cast, which also featured Jarred Wall, Maree Cole and Tadhg Lawrence, who stole the show with his cheeky version of Bottom.

Shadow puppetry projected above the stage, created in partnership with Sue Codee, Jane Davis and Sanjiva, helped tell the tale.

The production was directed by Breaksea’s Matt Ward, choreographed by Scott Elstermann, and conducted by Alan Lourens.
