IN PICTURES: Community comes together to remember the legacy of Cold War conflict

Two veterans of the Korean War were among those gathered at Albany’s St John’s Anglican Church on Sunday for a commemorative service for the signing of the Korean War Armistice. The service is organised annually by the Albany RSL sub-ranch to coincide with the anniversary of the signing of the armistice on July 27, 1953. This year marks 70 years since the signing bought an uneasy close to the Korean conflict between the peninsula’s north and south. A procession including the Rev John Jones, Alban RSL vice-president Roger Smith, and Ken and Margaret Morrison led flag bearers into the church to start the service. Mr Morrison was one of two men who had served in Korea attending the service, along with John Turner. Mr Jones led the service in prayer, and Lt Chris Cho delivered the keynote address. Wreaths were laid at the base of the cenotaph at the war memorial on the corner of York Street and Peels Place as the service moved outside before the delivery of the ode and the playing of the Last Post and Rouse brought the service to a close.
