IN PICTURES: Albany celebrates opening of 2024 WA Women’s Hall of Fame exhibit at Vancouver Arts Centre

About 30 people attended the opening of a new exhibition celebrating the accomplishments of West Australian women featuring portraits of the 20 inductees to the WA Women’s Hall of Fame. Curated by the Albany Soroptimists, the 2024 WA Women’s Hall of Fame exhibit opened at Vancouver Arts Centre on Tuesday. One of the featured women and new inductees, Albany Surf Life Saving Club’s Celia Waugh, was in attendance, visibly emotional at her inclusion among others including molecular biologists, callisthenics pioneers and Noongar elders. “I feel honoured to be featured amongst all these people,” she said. “Surf life saving has given me an education, family, friends; I’m so grateful. “For the young women, I hope you know that the future is whatever you want it to be.” Attendees at the official opening included members of Albany Soroptimist’s, mayor Greg Stocks, deputy mayor Paul Terry, Albany chief executive Andrew Sharpe, 2023 inductees Asha Bhat and Annette Grant, students from North Albany Senior High School and Ms Waugh’s daughters and grandchildren. The exhibition runs until August 15.
