Hospice a big winner

Albany Advertiser

Albany Community Hospice will be the beneficiary of the annual Albany Advertiser Great Southern Football League footy tipping competition for 2017.

The third GSFL tipping competition pitted six tipsters against each other for a chance at winning $250 for the charity of their choice.

In a thrilling final round, Albany Advertiser chief-of-staff Tim Edmunds pipped Wellington and Reeves director Kathleen Mier by one tip, finishing on 39 ahead of Mier on 38.

Edmunds, who was the bridesmaid last season, tipped correctly in two of the three games in round 15 to secure victory and was pleased to hand over the money to Albany Community Hospice chairwoman Jane Mouritz yesterday.

“The hospice and palliative care is pretty close to my family’s heart, so to me they were an obvious choice,” Edmunds said.

Last season’s joint winner, Albany MP Peter Watson (36), finished a joint third with GSFL president Joe Burton (36) while Advertiser sports journalist Cameron Newbold (35) could not recapture last season’s winning form, finishing with the wooden spoon with Inswing’s Adam Pumphrey.
