A police operation targeting licensed firearm owners in Narrogin led to officers seizing more than 70 unsecured firearms from one property.

The two-month operation has sparked a new Statewide Operation Bluesun as police remain concerrned over the thefts of firearms from rural properties.

Great Southern police Inspector Danny Vincent licensed firearm holders would have their storage facilities inspected by police at an arranged time in the next six weeks.

“To date over 100 inspections have been carried out in Narrogin and of those almost two thirds were found with firearms were unsecured,” he said.

“In one instance over 70 firearms were found unsecured at a property and were seized along with ammunition.”
