GSFL 2024: Mt Barker to celebrate 30-year history with retro Bulls jersey in last game of regular season

Mt Barker will mark their final game for the 2024 Great Southern Football League regular season by wearing retro Bulls guernseys to celebrate the club’s rich 30-year history. The Bulls will lock horns with reigning premiers Albany at Sounness Park on Saturday and will be buoyed by what is expected to be a huge crowd for their last home game of the season. The hosts will don a jersey that pays homage to the club’s origins, highlighting the 1994 merger of South Mt Barker and North Mt Barker, which created the team it stands as today. A true celebration of the Mt Barker sporting community, the Bulls will also celebrate loyal sponsor Mt Barker Transport Services, which has backed the club every year since its inception. Club legend, league player and recent life member Lee Pavlovich said he relished the chance to represent the club in their quest for an elusive premiership. “Since I’ve been playing I’ve watched every other club, including Sharks, win a flag “It is the pinnacle and it would mean everything if we were able to clinch one this year.” The Bulls are locked in fourth position and will play in an elimination final next week, but Pavlovich is enriched with belief his side can go the distance. “Yeah definitely (we have the squad to win the flag),” he said. “It’s a hard road from fourth to get three road wins but I certainly think it’s possible and . . . hopefully it starts this weekend against Sharks.” The festivities will also include a 40-year reunion for North Mt Barker’s 1984 premiership side and the club’s Auskickers, affectionately known as the Calves, will play during half-time of the league fixture. In the other matches in round 15 of the GSFL, Railways will have a slim shot to clinch a finals double chance when they square off with Denmark-Walpole at Tigerland. Sitting four points and percentage behind Royals, the Tigers must secure a big percentage-boosting win against the Magpies and need North Albany to upset the Lions at Retravision Stadium. All games start at 2.30pm on Saturday.
