GSFL 2023: Midfielder Zak Pretty gets perfect 10 in one-off game while Sharks’ Isaac Baum remains on top

Star midfielder Zak Pretty certainly made an impression in his one-off game for Denmark-Walpole on Saturday. Pretty, who is playing with Boddington in the Upper Great Southern Football League, made a surprise appearance for the Magpies in their breakthrough win over North Albany in round seven. He was one of 13 players the Magpies brought in from outside their club in the Benno Napier Memorial Game. The Magpies stormed to their first victory of the 2023 Great Southern Football League season and Pretty had plenty of say in the result, with a dominant display in the midfield. The former Peel Thunder ball winner kicked two superb goals in the third term as the Magpies won by 63 points and Pretty picked up the perfect 10 coaches votes. The rest of the votes in the round seven clash were shared with only Bailey Bennett, who kicked four goals, polling from both Brad Nisbett and Brad Bootsma. Albany star Isaac Baum remains in the lead of the GSFL 2023 Coaches’ Player of the Year Award, despite not polling in round seven. The Sharks continued their winning ways, beating Royals for a second time this year but the coaches were spilt in their voting. Andrew Ruck gave Sharks defender Kane Pinney top votes while Jamie Ramm sided with midfielder Bryce Blaszkow. Pinney collected seven votes and his teammate Taj Williams polled six, to both move up the leaderboard. Former winner of the this award Logan Stubber jumped to fourth place after picking up eight votes in Railways’ emphatic win over Mt Barker. Stubber now has 25 votes to sit behind only Baum (40 votes), Jack Beeck (34) and Daniel Patching (33). Tigers hard nut Beau Ewen moved to outright fifth in voting after receiving eight votes in the clash with the Bulls.
