Green light for proposed $30m hotel at Middleton Beach after State planning application gets approved

The highly anticipated $30 million hotel at Middleton Beach is a step closer after State planning approval was granted last week. The State’s development assessment panel approved an application on Thursday, giving the green light to an eight-storey, 69-room hotel that will be built on the corner of Flinders Parade and Adelaide Terrace. The hotel containing serviced apartments, a tavern and a shop will be delivered by Pacifica Ausglobal and operated by Seashells Group who operate similar accommodations around WA. A Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage spokesperson confirmed the application for Lot 10 Flinders Parade in Middleton Beach was approved with amendments made to conditions. The minutes from the meeting, which will detail the approval and amendments, will be published on the DAP’s website within the next 10 days. The hotel will have a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments. Concept designs released in 2022 included a rooftop beer garden and a pool overlooking the ocean. The City of Albany welcomed the latest development in the area, which was previously home to the Esplanade Hotel. “The City is pleased that the Middleton Beach hotel was approved by the Joint Development Assessment Panel this week,” the statement said. “The Middleton Beach hotel is poised to enhance the vibrancy of the area by providing increased accommodation choices and expanding the range of food and beverage options for both locals and tourists. “The developer can now confidently proceed with finalising the building plans and preparing the necessary documentation for a building permit approval.” In December 2020, it was revealed the WA Government had sold the 3700sqm site to Pacifica Developments and Ausglobal Group. The site was sold for about $1m after the Barnett government bought it for $7m in 2014. The site of the old Esplanade Hotel, which was built in 1991 and demolished in 2007, is opposite the new proposed hotel and has been developed as “Duette” terrace-style townhouses.
