Great Southern online guide offers insight into tastes and experiences of region

An online guide that will put the tastes and experiences of the Great Southern in the palms of consumers was launched last week in a bid to showcase the region and support jobs.

The Great Southern Food and Beverage Capability Guide is an interactive tool connecting producers to retailers, wholesalers, chefs and tourism operators.

The project is a collaboration between the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and the Denmark Chamber of Commerce.

Agriculture and Food Minister Alannah MacTiernan launched the guide at Mt Barker’s West Cape Howe winery on Friday.

“The Great Southern is rich in food and beverage produce and experiences, with almost 300 producers and processors spread across the region,” she said.

“Food tourism is becoming increasingly popular in attracting more visitors to our regions. The ... guide lists a number of local farmer’s markets and gourmet events, and also tells the provenance story of each business.”

Ms MacTiernan also launched the State Government’s $6 million Wine Industry Export Growth Partnership, which aims to increase the value of WA wine exports by 50 per cent by 2025.
