Great Southern Grammar students produce short films named as finalists at South West’s CinefestOZ festival
Three Great Southern Grammar students are finalists in the 2022 Cinesnaps Short Film Competition and will have their short films shown during the CinefestOZ Film Festival in the South West next week.
GSG students Edward Baker and Colin Ferreira are finalists in the short film competition’s Year 7-9 category and Henry Baker is a finalist in the Year 10-11 category.
Edward’s short film W-Files, Colin’s production Mars...Maybe Not, and Henry’s Lemon and the Pelicans, were created for the short film competition which required the completion of an original 3-5 minute short film on the theme of “space”.
The short film competition also features finalists from schools in Bunbury, Margaret River and Busselton.
The students’ work will screen during the CinefestOZ program in towns across the South West from August 23-28.
Their films will also be shown at a red carpet grand finale event on August 25 in front of a 200-strong audience at Busselton’s Esplanade Hotel.
They will be judged by a panel of industry experts including Home and Away actor Zara Zoe, Bump’s Carlos Sanson and McLeod’s Daughters actor and director Myles Pollard, who is currently filming a new movie Frank and Frank in Albany.
CinefestOZ chief executive Malinda Nixon said she was thrilled to see such dedication to the craft from students.
“It’s so exciting to see so many students from regional WA interested in film and we can’t wait to screen their work at the festival,” she said.
The short film competition is part of the Cinesnaps Program, funded by Rio Tinto, which offers students and teachers opportunities to engage with filmmakers and film industry professionals.
