Great Southern Grammar students donated 1000 cans of food to Foodbank Albany last week as part of a student-led initiative to support the community through the COVID-19 crisis.

Student leaders hatched a plan to gather 750 cans from their peers and parents to deliver to the local Foodbank, with each student donating an average of two cans each.

Over a couple of weeks, middle and junior school students called into each classroom to drum up support and collect the donations, which quickly surpassed the goal.

Principal Mark Sawle said he was proud of his students’ commitment to the cause.

“I thank them and all students and families who contributed food to donate,” he said.

“We are traversing difficult waters locally and globally and the challenges continue to be significant, but together as a compassionate community, we can face them.”
