Grant delivered to Kadadjiny Aboriginal Corporation to support Great Southern Aboriginal Leaders Conference

A Lotterywest grant of more than $87,000 has been delivered to Kadadjiny Aboriginal Corporation to help it host a leadership forum at the Albany Entertainment Centre later this year. The Great Southern Aboriginal Leaders Conference 2023 will take place over two days in the second week of November. Several targeted workshops will be conducted which showcase accomplishments, highlight new prospects and acknowledge the distinctive essence of the Great Southern. Kadadjiny Aboriginal Corporation chief executive Stuart Roberts said the conference would allow the community to celebrate its successes while also addressing concerns close to the heart of the people in the region’s Aboriginal community. “This event is run by Aboriginal people and for Aboriginal people,” he said. “It’s about empowering local people to work together improve their quality of life in the Great Southern. “The Aboriginal Emerging Leadership Group, which was established in this region, is lining up great speakers across a range of topics from what vicarious trauma is and how to deal with it, to indigenous tourism opportunities and what’s being done in that space.” Mr Roberts said the KAC was encouraging businesses, organisations and government agencies to make it possible for their Aboriginal staff members to be part of the initiative. “Our vision for this conference is to empower our community’s emerging leaders, connecting them with our respected elders, so we can work together effectively to build robust and enduring leadership networks for our community,” he said. Albany MLA Rebecca Stephens handed the $87,780 to Mr Roberts on Monday. “I am delighted to present Kadadjiny with this funding, which will enable the local Indigenous community to build upon the momentum of its activities in support of this leaders’ conference,” she said. “Keep supporting local Lotterywest retailers when you buy your tickets, as you’re also helping community groups like Kadadjiny and small, local businesses that benefit when events such as this are held in our city.”
