Funds boost to projects

Community projects around Denmark have received $35,000 funding from the Shire as part of the Community Financial Assistance Program.

The program encourages community-based, not-for-profit organisations to apply for funding for projects that benefit the community.

The Shire received 27 applications for minor grants and major grants of more than $5000.

Eleven of the applications were successful.

TOW Trail half-marathon co-ordinated by the Denmark Running Club received $1810, and the Great Southern Classic Car Show received $2700.

Other community projects funded included the 2019 Southern Art & Craft Trail which received $3500 and Nornalup Residents & Ratepayers Association which received $5000 to organise a Picnic at Nornalup.

Denmark Baroque received $2000 for its A Spring Pastorale performance, HorsePower Denmark received $4000 to purchase a horse float and Denmark Senior High School received $2000 for its drama ensemble production.

Wilson Inlet Catchment Committee also received $990 on behalf of the Denmark Bird Group to hold a full-day seminar.

Denmark Men’s Shed received $1500 to develop the group’s website, West Oz Geocaching received $1500 to hold its WA Goes Big event and the Denmark Community Resource Centre received the biggest boost, with $10,000 funding for the 2019 Christmas Parade.

A workshop and consultation was held for staff and councillors to discuss the merits of each application.

Corporate services manager Lee Sounness said he looked forward to seeing the projects coming to fruition.

“We will see the delivery of some wonderful projects and events in the coming twelve months that support the health and creativity of our vibrant community,” he said.
