Full marks for top achievers
The region’s brightest students achieved impressive results in ATAR and VET courses as duxes at schools across Albany and Denmark have been revealed.
North Albany Senior High School’s Apryl Oreo is one of the high achievers.
She received a near-perfect record in her five years of high school, receiving an A grade for 63 classes — there were only four classes in her entire secondary education that she did not receive an A grade. With a record like this, she was awarded the school’s ATAR Dux award. Even more impressive is that Ms Oreo worked two jobs during her Year 12 studies, which she said helped her rather than restrained her.
“You can have a job and do well still,” she said. “A lot of people tell that you have to study instead but I think it was good for me to have a balance. It gave me a good time management because I had a set time to study so I made the most of it, and I think having a sport is important as well.” With a gap year ahead of her, she plans to move to Perth at the end of 2020 and study medicine.
Relieved her Year 12 is over, she said she was looking forward to relaxing, although her final year of schooling was not as stressful as she thought it would be.
Albany Senior High School, Great Southern Grammar, Australian Christian College, St Joseph’s College, Denmark Senior High School and WA College of Agriculture Denmark have also announced their top students.
