Free influenza vaccine program extended to the end of June

Albany and Great Southern residents have another month to access free flu vaccinations following a decision by the State Government to extend its vaccination program until the end of June.
The free influenza vaccination program was initially planned to run through to the end of May, but Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson announced on Sunday the program would be extended.
“The peak period for influenza transmission in WA is typically from June to September, and now is also the time to make sure your COVID-19 vaccinations are up to date,” she said.
“A double infection could be more serious than having either influenza or COVID alone.
“The State Government continues to work with pharmacies and GPs to provide a free vaccination for every Western Australian ahead of winter.
“I urge anyone who has not yet had their influenza vaccination to please book an appointment at GPs, pharmacies and immunisation clinics across the State.”
So far this year more than 565,000 Western Australian’s have been vaccinated, with more than 338,400 of them taking advantage of free vaccinations in May.
Last year, under the Free Jab June and July program 362,000 jabs were administered, with more than one million Western Australians being vaccinated in total.
The free vaccine is available to everyone in WA aged over six months through GPs Aboriginal Medical Services, and participating community pharmacies.
