Former winners headline title entries

Cameron NewboldAlbany Advertiser

A field of 21 drivers has assembled for the WA Super Sedan Title, which will be held at Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway on Saturday, January 6 after the venue held the national title last season.

Speedway Sedans Australia released the field for the 2017-18 WA title last week, headed by former winners Warren Minshull and Bert Vosbergen.

Star super sedan driver Gary Higgs will be out to end a staggering run of close finishes, having been on the podium seven times but having never won the event.

Mt Barker’s Chris Pavlovich also looms as a major contender at the title, having won four feature races in the super sedan ranks already this season, while the likes of Kyle Larson, Damon Trouchet, Kemble Aylett and Kevin Bell have also nominated.

Defending WA champion Matt Pascoe, of Queensland, is unable to compete at the event, which means a new champion will be crowned.

The title will be a one-night affair with six qualifying heats before a 35-lap championship decider. Practice will be held on Friday, January 5, leading into Saturday night’s racing.

Albany last held the WA Super Sedan Title in 2009-10 when Marc Giancola defeated Gary and Keith Higgs.

In last season’s national title, Darren Kane beat Dave Gartner and Pascoe, with Minshull and Gary Higgs both recording top-10 finishes.
