FFA Cup tilt for Polonia, Rovers
Albany teams Polonia and Rovers will take part in the 2020 FFA Cup preliminary rounds that start this weekend.
The rivals will do battle on their home turf for the chance to progress in the national knockout competition. Polonia and Rovers are the only Albany teams in this year’s cup and they will face off at 3pm on Saturday.
The winner will progress to the next round of the competition on March 14.
The opening round comprises regional teams from around WA.
The WA preliminary rounds will determine which teams qualify for the national round of 32 in which A-League teams kick off their campaigns.
Last year, Caledonians, Rovers and Polonia all took part in the FFA Cup and two made it to the third round.
Caledonians beat Rovers in the opening round and Polonia also progressed via a forfeit.
However, in the third round Polonia were thrashed 12-0 by State league division 1 outfit Gwelup Croatia and Caledonians also exited at that stage after a 7-0 defeat at the hands of another State league division 1 team, Morley-Windmills.
Polonia and Rovers will kick off their cup contest on the K4 pitch near the corner of North and Campbell Road from 3pm.
There will be lead-up ladies’ and reserves games on the day.
