WA sit at the bottom of their pool in the National Under-19 Cricket Championships after the opening two games in Perth this week, and face an uphill battle to reach the semifinals.

Albany product and Midland-Guilford all-rounder Michael Ferreira is playing in the WA team for a second straight year at under-19 level.

Ferreira was not part of the playing 12 for the hosts on the opening day, when they were thrashed by six wickets at the hands of Tasmania at Cresswell Park, but the 18-year-old was in the team for Tuesday’s clash with Victoria Metro. He finished with 0-22 from three overs as Victoria Metro made 9-243 from their 50 overs.

WA never recovered from being 4-24 but Ferreira showed terrific fight at No.6, top-scoring with 28 runs off 31 balls as WA were bowled out for 90 in a 153-run hiding at Abbett Park.

WA face ACT/NSW Country at Hale School’s Craig Oval today and Northern Territory tomorrow at Rossiter Oval, Wesley College, before they tackle the Cricket Australia XI at Sutherlands Park on Sunday.
