Federal election 2025: Deonne Kingsford on a ‘fair go’ for families and making Australia a ‘righteous nation’

In her latest campaign for a political seat, Australian Christians Deonne Kingsford hopes to turn Australia into a “righteous nation” exalted by God. Since joining the Australian Christians Party in 2003, the Wandering local has run for four State and Federal elections, starting in 2017 with the State seat of Warnbro and most recently running for the Murray-Wellington electorate in March. With a diploma in beauty and business and a background in real estate, teaching and small-business, Ms Kingsford says she has always had an interest in politics. “I’ve always had an interest in how the country’s run, and been surprised by some of the things that seemed outlandish, or actually shocked by watching the government performance when they argue, and even young children can watch that,” she said. “I’ve been thinking that this isn’t right.” Originally from South Gippsland in Victoria, Ms Kingsford settled in Western Australia after extensive travel, before residing in her Wheatbelt home. The devout Christian said Australia was no longer a “righteous nation”. “This isn’t a righteous nation, and God likes a righteous nation, and that’s the one he can exalt,” she said. “I think I’ve always been interested in fighting for the underdog a bit.” A proclaimed conservative, Ms Kingsford believes people are “infiltrating” schools with a “woke” agenda and wants to ensure families can send their children to faith-based schools. “The schooling has just changed, the curriculum, all the things that you could call it woke — it doesn’t need to be there,” she said. “The basics of schooling that we had — reading, writing, and maths — those sorts of things are more important than what’s being taught today. “They need to get back to the basics, and I think there are a lot of things in the curriculum that have been added that doesn’t need to be there.” Ms Kingsford is campaigning on a platform of protecting and promoting regions, restoring the live sheep export trade, imposing rental caps, defending those “not even born” and ensuring elderly people feel valued. “I’m also a believer in that people need a fair go — specifically the family,” she said. “We believe that we must defend them, whether they’re young or whether they’re not even born, or whether they’re elderly.” She hopes that she can win the seat, but if unsuccessful hopes her votes supports other conservative candidates. “My figures can help someone else . . . like conservatives can support another conservative — it can build up and that we can get a chance of getting in,” she said. “There’s two major parties there with a lot of money and a lot of people, but when we conservatives can build on each other’s votes we can make a difference. “Australian Christians really believe that we need a strong defence as well, and that we need to look into the economy and how the money is being spent. “It seems a bit dark and dismal at the moment for the family particularly.” Concerned with the housing crisis felt throughout O’Connor and Australia, Ms Kingsford said she plans to push for rental caps and immigration policy reviews. She also supports an inquiry into supermarket price gouging, saying she has personally felt the rising cost of groceries and other costs of living. “In the supermarket they’re making a lot of profit that the people are paying the price for still — so why is that? It doesn’t seem reasonable,” she said. She plans to be a voice for farmers and the regions, saying the land needs to be promoted and the people “must be heard and not ignored”.
