Emotional farewell to World War II veteran Richard “Dick” Hobley in Nyabing

World War II veteran Richard “Dick” Hobley received a hero’s farewell in Nyabing last week.

Members of the 10th Light Horse Albany Troop escorted his hearse to the Nyabing Cemetery, where he was buried next to his mother in an emotional funeral service on Friday.

Mr Hobley moved to Albany about five years ago, where the 10th Light Horse Albany Troop inducted him as their first honorary member.

He enlisted in the army in Katanning in May 1941 at 19.

After serving with the 10th Light Horse Regiment for several years, he was transferred to the 2/1st Australian Pioneer Battalion and saw action in Borneo.

Mr Hobley, 98, died surrounded by his loved ones in Albany on June 6.
