Elwyn set to bring it home with new single
Emerging Albany singer Ellie Davies will embark on a six-leg tour this week, as her new single Never Gonna Bring Me Down continues to rise in popularity.
After living in Albany and attending Great Southern Grammar, Davies has been developing her music in Perth and today will play alongside her full band for the first time in Melbourne.
The electro-pop artist, who goes by Elwyn in music circles, will play a gig at The Retreat tonight, the first of four shows in Melbourne before returning home to WA, where she will perform at The Aardvark on November 22.
However, the highlight of the tour will be a homecoming to where it all began, at Six Degrees on December 6.
“It is extremely exciting to be heading off to Melbourne for a single tour,” Davies said. “I’ve only ever done solo shows there but I’ll be playing with the full band over there. I’m really looking forward to the Albany show; I love coming home and it’s already selling pretty fast.
“To play at my own show in Albany will be a pretty special moment.”
Elwyn launched her first EP called Higher Ground in 2017 after graduating from WAAPA but the smooth lyrics on her latest song show what this local talent is capable of.
“The new song is doing so well,” she said. “Not just in Australia but it is being played in America, the UK and a bit through Asia.
“It has only been out just over a month and it’s been played in 50 countries.
“It is the first song I have produced myself, I stuck to my guns and trusted myself and that’s why it has done so well.
“The song is basically about self-confidence, ignoring those who try and bring you down and just doing your own thing and coming out on top.”
The 24-year-old is working on two other new tracks she is hopeful of releasing early next year and a Californian-shot music video for Never Gonna Bring Me Down, which was released this week.
Her recent trip to America was possible after linking up with Girls Rock Australia, a not-for-profit organisation that supports girls and gender-diverse young people through music.
Davies is a founding member of the WA part of the group.
Never Gonna Bring Me Down is featuring on triple j unearthed and is also available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and YouTube.
Tickets for Elwyn’s gig at Six Degrees are available from Eventbrite.
