Double for Albany trainer Rebecca Bayliss after Final Siren blows them away again, Beau Zoom makes big return

Highly-promising youngster Final Siren produced another slashing victory, to remain undefeated after two career starts in Albany on Sunday. The three-year-old was heavily supported into a $1.35 favourite in the O’Driscoll Chaff Handicap (1100m) on the back of a dominant five-length win on debut. Final Siren again let rip with a brilliant finish in the home straight for jockey Kyra Yuill, winning by more than three lengths over stablemate Hot Chatter. Albany trainer Rebecca Bayliss admitted some nerves heading into Final Siren’s second career start but was taken by his performance again. “You are a bit worried after that first win,” she said. “Its really hard to win that second one. “He’s still learning and Kyra said she just can’t hold him slow enough but she said he was heaps better today, more relaxed and balanced.” The son of I’m All The Talk has a strong group of local owners and Bayliss said they can expect to see the young star stepping up to tackle better opposition next start at Ascot. “We wanted to see what happened today,” Bayliss said. “He’s still only three and still growing and learning but we’ll probably look for a good race now for him.” Final Siren has won his first two races by a combined margin of nearly 10 lengths after an eye-catching first appearance at the track when winning a 1000m barrier trial in October. Bayliss finished with a winning double at Percy Spencer Racecourse on Sunday after comeback galloper Beau Zoom blitzed his rivals in the final race. The seven-year-old suffered a tendon injury when racing for Neville Parnham in March 2022. He was bought by the Bayliss stable and after recovering from the serious injury, returned in brilliant fashion to win first-up. Beau Zoom ($9) settled on speed and shot clear in the home straight for rider Natasha Faithfull before holding out the fast-finishing Henry The Aviator by 0.4 lengths. It was only his second career win but Bayliss said the gelding was looming as a nice prospect for the Mt Barker Sprint and Fitzpatrick Plate. “I was a bit blown away today,” Bayliss said. “It was a real risk when we bought him as he had a bowed tendon. “We thought we’d just chuck him out and see what happens and bringing him back you just don’t know. “If we did get him back, we thought he would be good down here.” Albany trainer Jonathon Jachmann had the quinella in the Hygain Release Handicap (1500m) as Rock Of Kaha held out Annihilator by more than a length. Paul Hunter, who had a training treble in the first part of the card, also ran an impressive trial winner on Sunday. Playing Rio, who is still a maiden, won by 6.1 lengths in a 1000m trial with Jason Whiting aboard. Open class runner Big Bada Boom won the second trial for trainer Roy Rogers, downing Work In Progress by 0.2 lengths while Steve Wolfe’s Ex Sport Girl made a nice return to run third. Stewards reprimanded jockey Chris Nicoll in race one for careless riding aboard Snippagent which ran fourth.
