Dominant grand final display earns Lions midfielder Taylah Orzel best on ground medal

Royals midfielder Taylah Orzel was instrumental in her side’s memorable grand final victory last Friday night, winning the best player-on-the-ground medal.

Orzel played her second season in the Great Southern Football League women’s competition and finished with a premiership medal as her Lions prevailed over Railways.

The Lions star was prolific through the middle of the ground, collecting a stack of possessions, cutting off a number of Tigers attacks and setting up her side going forward.

“Winning best on ground amongst such skilful teammates is an absolute dream,” she said.

“I have been in many grand finals and I don’t think I have ever been awarded best on, so it was such a great feeling to be awarded it and winning was the cherry on top.

“To be picked out of the whole team is definitely an honour as there is some amazing talent out there.

“Definitely a great memory that I will always remember.”

Orzel said it was a hard-fought contest and was proud of her side for toughing it out.

“I felt the game was really good and I’m still recovering now,” she said.

“Getting those two goals in a row definitely built confidence and reminded us to keep going and believing in ourselves.

“We just knew we had to keep pushing until the siren sounded.”
