Detectives confirm 33-year-old man assisting with enquiries into alleged sexual assault on York Street

A 33-year-old man is assisting police with enquiries into an alleged sexual assault on York Street in the early hours of Saturday morning. Police blocked access to the front of Scots Church on Saturday, with the area taped off for several hours on Albany’s main strip. Forensics officers placed evidence markers on the grass next to the heritage-listed church building. Their investigation was conducted in full view of the public. This afternoon, Albany Detective Sergeant Darryl Noye confirmed a 33-year-old man was helping police with their investigation. “Albany detectives with the assistance of the Sexual Assault Squad are investigating a serious incident on York Street,” Det. Sgt Noye said. “The incident occurred after a young female left the nightclub in the early hours of Saturday morning. “Albany Detectives have a 33-year-old male in custody assisting them with their inquiries.” Det.
