Departing year 12s from North Albany Senior High School dress for respect
Leaving year 12s from North Albany Senior High School have shown their love and respect for teachers at the school in a most unlikely way - by dressing like them.
Ahead of their final exams many year 12s took part in the dress as a teacher day and Julie Duthie, NASH senior school student services coordinator said the day helped students pay homage.
“I'm not really sure where it came from. My first year was 2018 and our students had already started it but it was basically paying homage to the quirky teachers,” she said.
Among the teachers mimicked on the day were science teachers Glenn Simpson and Daniel Hoath and even Ms Duthie herself.
She said that there were a variety of reasons behind who students chose to dress as.
“There's a science teacher whose got a goatee and short black hair and that's Daniel Hoath and there's always a couple of Hoaths around on the day that give themselves goaties,” she said.
“Mr Simpson, he wears his pastel polo shirt with a pair of shorts.
“For some of the kids, it may just be that that's their favourite teacher or the teacher and that's how they can show how much they care for the teacher.
“Its that whole respectful relationship but with a good sense of humour thrown in.”
“Our year 12's put a lot of thought into it… they care about the teachers and they want to make sure that the teachers don't feel offended or anything (but) I've never had a teacher feel offended.
