Denmark’s Isi Campbell finishes third in 16-and-under girls’ final at the Taj’s Small Fries in Yallingup

Isi Campbell has again mixed it with the best young surfers in WA, reaching the 16-and-under girls’ final at the 17th Taj’s Small Fries event that wrapped up in Yallingup on Sunday.

The major WA surf event is named after the State’s most successful surfer, Taj Burrow.

Young grommets battled big surf and challenging conditions as building swell and strong afternoon winds made for a gripping finish to the event.

Campbell, of Denmark, made it through to the final after winning her two heats.

The young gun was an opening-round winner with a score of seven as they were only counting best single wave score due to shorter heats.

In her second heat, Campbell scored a combined score of 14.9 to book her place in the final.

In the final, Campbell recorded four scoring waves, with her best two waves combining for a score of 11.25.

Margaret River’s Willow Hardy took out the final, scoring an 8 and 7.5 to finish on 15.50 out of a possible 20.

Augusta’s Ruby Berry (11.95) was second just ahead of Campbell, while Margaret River’s Olive Hardy (7.6) filled fourth.
