Denmark-Walpole and Brisbane Lions ruckman Kalin Lane delisted by AFL premiers after injury-interrupted year
Luckless Brisbane Lions youngster Kalin Lane, who hails from the Great Southern, has been informed his contract will not be renewed for next season.
After being selected with the Lions’ pick No.14 in the AFL mid-season rookie draft in 2021, the Denmark-Walpole junior showed a lot of promise playing 52 matches for the Lions’ VFL side.
In 2022, Lane penned a new contract which kept him at the Gabba until the end of this season.
However, the 22-year-old‘s 2024 season and aspirations of a long-awaited AFL debut were dealt a fatal blow after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament against Coburg in July.
Despite the bitter end to his career, Lane did get to enjoy the club’s premiership celebrations after the Lions smashed Sydney in the 2024 grand final.
The 205cm ruckman joins Carter Michael and James Madden as the 2024 premiers only other delisted players.
Lions general manager of football Danny Daly thanked the departing trio for their services and acknowledged their injury troubles.
“Kalin (Lane) and Carter (Michael) have both struggled with injury during their time at the club,” he said.
“I thank all three players for their contribution to the Brisbane Lions and we wish them and their families all the best for the future.”
Lane played 18 matches for Claremont in the WAFL, including one league game in 2021, before the Lions snapped him up.
