Denmark Senior High School claim Great Southern Lower School Cup against six other schools in basektball

Denmark Senior High School were victorious from the Great Southern Lower School Cup held at Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre last Thursday. Albany Senior High School, North Albany Senior High School, Great Southern Grammar, Mt Barker Community College, Denmark Senior High School, St Joseph’s College and Bethel Christian College took part in the round-robin event involving Year 9 and 10 students. A total of 22 boys’ and girls’ teams entered across two divisions. Denmark claimed the overall championship after winning three out of four divisions. They were champions in the division 1 and 2 girls’ competitions along with the division 1 boys’ final. ASHS took out the division two boys final. Basketball WA’s Great Southern regional development officer Luke McGuire said the event was a huge success. “It is always great to see the schools come together for the lower school tournament,” he said. “This year we had an overall winner of the day which was Denmark SHS. “Regardless of results having so many participants playing at these types of tournaments shows the strength of num-bers down here in the Great Southern. “It is really easy to just focus all on competition but I think on the day we have the perfect balance of trying to win but also giving kids an opportunity to play basketball. “A big thanks to Nicole Weeden for running the day.”
