Denmark residents encouraged to join national garage sale trail to divert preloved goods from landfill

Denmark residents are being encouraged to sell their preloved belongings as a part of the country’s biggest simultaneous garage sale running across two weekends in November.

The Garage Sale Trail is a national event where more than 100 local councils host a string of garage sales with the aim of prolonging the life of clothes, furniture and other items.

Residents are encouraged to register their interest and convert their driveways or front yards into meccas of preloved treasures.

Shire of Denmark chief executive David Schober said it was a fun way for the community to connect and make some money while keeping items out of landfill.

“Keeping things in use for as long as we can by buying or selling at a garage sale makes sense for the planet and makes cents for participants,” he said.

“The annual Garage Sale Trail event is popular in Denmark, reflecting our community’s sustainability key goals and objectives, so I’m sure we’ll see a lot of participation again.

“This nationally coordinated event makes garage sales easy by supplying tips, resources, advertising and even enabling touch-free PayPal QR code payments, so we are always proud to facilitate the program here locally.”

Between October 29 and November 5 residents will be able to access “trail tutorials” — a series of educational online seminars about sustainable fashion and lifestyle.

The free series features experts in fashion, home renovations and the circular economy.
