Dedicated sailor Bob Giles awarded life membership as Princess Royal Sailing Club opens 115th season

A packed clubhouse on Saturday heard an interesting address from life member and former commodore Terry Castlehow before he officially opened the 115th sailing season at Princess Royal Sailing Club.

The occasion was made more memorable when commodore Harold Keay presented long-time member and former commodore Bob Giles with life membership of PRSC.

Commodore Keay read a list of achievements of more than 60 years of involvement within the club.

Mr Giles, among other things, is a former commodore, a State champion in Red Witches, an Australian Flying Fifteen champion and has sailed around Cape Leeuwin 22 times.

It was a well-deserved award for years of activity at the club.

After the official opening of the 2023-24 season, 18 yachts from various fleets and the cruising division sailed to the town marina and back in a special sail past in glorious weather.

The serious competition resumes this Saturday with King George Sound and harbour racing.
