Dark Assault finally breaks through to be part of another five-win haul for red-hot Rogers stable
It was another brilliant day out for trainer Roy Rogers after he saddled up five winners on Ladies’ Day in Albany on Sunday.
Rogers has been in scintillating form this season, and extended his margin to nine over rival Steve Wolfe in the Great Southern Trainers’ Premiership.
He trained five of the seven winners on the card, including the Pelicans Ladies’ Bracelet feature race with flying mare Fangio.
Dark Assault broke his maiden status and took his earnings over $100,000 after saluting in the Willaview Park Maiden (1230m).
The three-year-old colt ran fourth in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, second in the Listed Perth Stakes and then third in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate but was yet to win a race before Sunday.
Ridden by Chris Parnham, Dark Assault was well supported into a $1.60 favourite and was trapped wide in running but pressed forward to take the lead and then held off the fast- finishing Ginger Green by a half-length.
Rogers started the day on a winning note, with Dancing Jack justifying his short $1.40 quote to prevail in the small field of four in race one for Parnham.
In race five, consistent gelding Kazkazi prevailed over stablemate Feels Hot by a nose with apprentice Madi Derrick aboard.
Derrick and Rogers teamed up in the final race on the program with Read The Riot Act.
“It’s great to have another five winners and continue the good form,” Rogers said.
“I have some really good owners and grateful I have got good support and staff and family.
“It’s a team effort so all the success is based on the team event and developing strong relationships which makes it all happen.
“I’m just absolutely rapt for the clients and the team.”
Sunday’s domination in Albany capped off a superb weekend for Rogers after Big Bada Boom scored victory at Ascot on Saturday.
Big Bada Boom continues to rise through the grades after winning the Heineken 3 Handicap (1800m) for Mitchell Pateman at his metro debut.
After leading early, Big Bada Boom was taken on by Albany’s Eurasia at the 800m mark but dug deep in the straight to fight back and win by a half length.
The four-year-old gelding won four in a row in the Great Southern before making the step up into city class.
